Adult Psychiatric Treatment

The Adult Psychiatric Treatment Program at The Pavilion is available for individuals 18 or older who are experiencing acute or chronic mental illness or severe emotional disturbances. Patients receive individualized, professional care in a secure, therapeutic atmosphere. The multidisciplinary staff is comprised of psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses, social workers, and occupational therapists. In addition to the general psychiatric treatment program, an intensive care area is available on the unit.

Treatment Program

Treatment in the adult unit includes individualized psychotherapy, medical management, education, and group interaction and therapy. Activities are designed to encourage participation and provide a structured environment.

Each patient is carefully assessed, and an individualized treatment plan is developed and regularly revised to meet the needs of that patient based on psychiatric, medical, family, educational, social, spiritual, and vocational factors.

The treatment routine includes educational and group meetings as well as activities therapy. These focus on weekly themes based on the needs of the group identified by the treatment team.

Activities therapy is provided by the occupational therapists. Patients receive evaluations in specific areas, and the individual contributes in the formulation of his/her treatment goals as much as possible. The registered occupational therapist is a member of the treatment team that provides ongoing assessment of the individual's progress at regularly scheduled multidisciplinary team meetings, and regularly participate in patient community groups.

Occupational therapy involves evaluating the nature and level of the individual's skills and deficits in sensor motor integration, self maintenance, interpersonal and group skills, and task behavior.

Discharge and Referral

Upon discharge, a member of the treatment team will arrange contacts for the patient with vocational rehabilitation programs, support groups, community health agencies, and/or other avenues of assistance.
